The station

By Marlyn Mehlmann

Driving to the station is beside you
and the road still holds us fast
in its compelling man made grip
As we slide out of the past
on a pulsing one way trip
And the signs ring red and gold and green
in the changes which are mearningful with light
And the moon and back is where we’ve been tonight

Walking to the platform is beside you
and the moving urgent feet
of myriad strangers in a stream
Through Stockholms hurrid streets
are just a frame around our dream
And your arm around me tells me what you mean
when you say that every-thing is coming right
And the moon and back is where we’ve been tonight

Standing on the platform is beside you
and those lips I’ve  come to know
are fra-ming words I want to hear
and I know that you must go
but just now you’re very near
And the guards’ commands ring softly through our dreams
as one last time your arms enfold me tight
And the moon and back is where we’ve been tonight

And walking from the platform is without you
and you won’t hear my silent calls
as the train slides down the track
While the ring-ing sta-tion halls
close a-round me like a trap
I can’t recognize again the things I see
nor Im-pose a mearing on the million lights
And oh my heart where will you be to-night
